We are in the car A LOT. Besides having a 25 minute commute to school each day we often find ourselves waiting for practice or activities to conclude and most of the time the kids are hungry! With my own meetings and clients to attend to during the day, I don’t always remember to have snacks available. If you know anything about being a parent, you know that a hungry kid is often a grumpy kid. Today’s tip provides some great ideas to be ready when those tummies start to grumble.
Being prepared before the hunger pangs hit allow us to make better, smarter choices rather than the impulse choices we might make if we’re starving. Kellogg’s Corn Pops along with some dried fruit or nuts is a fantastic pack ahead snack.
These snacks are fun and are shelf stable so they can be packed quite a bit in advance. Often we were in an rush and forgot to pack something. Having them strategically placed in the backpacks and in the car makes me feel like one smart mom. Needless to say, it pleases the kids as well!
These are easy to pack because we all already love them. They are delicious and simple. Smart snacking doesn’t mean you have to eat sticks and twigs. You can have tasty things and still make good choices. My son definitely gives these snacks the thumbs up!
It’s not always the kids that are starving, I often forget to pack something for myself. I find myself on the way to an appointment and realize that I haven’t had anything to eat yet. My solution for those busy days is to keep some Kellogg’s Raisin Bran mixed with some of my favorite nuts in a resealable bag right in my purse. It’s there when I need it and it really satisfies my hunger until I can get a chance to have a meal. Having a strategy for snacks allows me to eat more mindfully instead of stopping at a convenience store and grabbing something when I’m in a rush. YAY!!
