We help kids learn to tie their shoes, how to read even how to cook and so much more. The one thing that we might struggle with is teaching them how to manage their emotions. I’m super excited to share with you something that might be the most valuable thing your child (and you) learns how to do.

Feeling Buddies For Families Toolkit
In this previous post, I shared my love and excitement for all things Conscious Discipline, especially the new Feeling Buddies For Families Toolkit. Just so you know, the Feeling Buddies for Families toolkit is a way to learn self-regulation skills for parents and kids with the power to transform the emotional health of your family.
We’ve been trying out some of the ideas over several weeks and it’s amazing to see how the kids really get into it. Giving them coping skills and ways to self-regulate is so empowering for those big emotions. One of the best things is that as the parent, you learn stuff too. I know I did!
We All Need A Safe Place
Setting up a “safe place” is a great part of this program and the best part is that it can be anywhere in your house. It can be just a little comfortable spot in a room where the kids can sit while helping their feeling buddies. It should have room for two, since you might sometimes be in there with the child. It also has visual reminders of the belly breathing techniques which are free printables that can be downloaded on the www.FeelingBuddies.com site. Then you’ll have the Feeling Buddies and the Helping My Feeling Buddies book also available. When we go here, it helps so much. The focus on breathing, the Feeling Buddies and the book all help to diffuse whatever is difficulty is going on.
Mini Feeling Buddies With Carrying Case
We love having the Mini Feeling Buddies with carrying case in our safe place. While it’s important to remember these little plush dolls are not toys, they are super portable and can be one of the keys to helping with self-regulation where ever you go. It’s so hard to have words for everything your feeling and these little guys really help when the kids need it.
Helping My Buddies Book
One thing that they can’t get enough of is Helping My Buddies book. Fun illustrations that reach kids on their level. It helped us start conversations that otherwise would be difficult.
Listen To Your Feelings CD
Rounding out the toolkit is the the Listen To Your Feelings CD. It’s a great way to help kids learn more about the Feeling Buddies process while engaging them with fun songs. Music always seems to reach my kids in such a powerful way.
Having all of these tools anywhere you and your child go is so helpful. I hope it helps your family make great strides in transforming how you deal with emotions for good!
