Getting the whole family together for a trip to Santa’s Wonderland at Bass Pro Shops is an annual tradition for our family. This year we got to go a little early, so we were glad that it started in November because my husband’s schedule doesn’t allow for a lot of time off. We all jumped into the car last Friday night and talked all about the fun things we were going to do. Even my teen daughter had some items that she wanted to check out for her Christmas list.
We pulled up to the giant building and adored the decorations. My son was literally buzzing with excitement. We were planning on getting some dinner too but he couldn’t wait to get inside so we decided to visit Santa and shop first. My son didn’t know we were there to also purchase a Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun. This gun has been on his list for a long time! This is going to be a big step for our family. For years I had said no guns. But now that my son is 11, I feel like he is more mature. Sometimes I get the feeling that making certain things off limits to kids makes them even more attractive. I want him to learn gun safety under my rules and my supervision. As a parent, I feel I have a responsibility to explore his interests and being a boy scout, target practice is right up his alley. We’re so glad that Daisy provides these ten rules for gun safety and I’m sure I’ll be adding a few of my own.
Going to Santa’s Wonderland is even more fun for me than the kids!! I love to see their faces as they make some crafts, check out the laser shooting gallery, race some cars, and so much more!! I can’t forget to tell you about the picture with Santa and that all these activities are totally free!! I LOVE IT!! You too can see Santa and do some fun family activities together with your family through December 24th.
You can see more of the activities that we participated in and more fabulous Christmas scenes in my Google+ Album.
My son spent quite a bit of time discussing his Christmas list with Santa. They grow up so fast!!! This picture will be a keepsake for me forever.
After all that fun, we couldn’t ask for more, right?! We had such a good time together, I almost forgot how much fun we have there. Then he spotted it; The Daisy Red Ryder display. I walked over and started discussing the guns. He told me all about how much he’d always one, how he would always wear safety glasses, how he would study the gun safety rules and how he would only use it when an adult was supervising him. I didn’t feel upset or scared like I thought I might. I actually felt like our conversation opened up some new lines of communication between us. I felt a weird peacefulness with the gun. I had to add, “you better not shoot your eye out,” just for The Christmas Story movie memory moment.
All of us really enjoyed our time in the store, we picked up some extra bb’s, a seasonal hat, a bag for my daughter and I even had to say hi to Santa before we headed to the checkout. It was so much fun we have decided to take a second trip to Santa’s Wonderland before the season is over.
Now the waiting begins!! My son asked me not to wrap it so he can stare at it until Christmas. He really makes me laugh! I love that he is so excited and he already has everything he wants for Christmas!! I am just so thankful for Bass Pro Shops and Daisy Outdoor Products!!
