It’s been a little over a week since the terrible devastation that hit the east coast. After visiting New york just this past August and meeting so many awesome people, I cannot forget about the terrible times that they are going through especially with the holidays right around the corner. I am researching ways for my family to help and thought I would share just in case you were looking for ways to assist them too.
Here’s a variety of ways you can help out during this trying time!
Are you great at whipping up hats and mittens around this time of year? Find out how you can help: Calling All Knitters and Crocheters: Help Those Hurt by Sandy.
Here’s another way for you crafty knitters to share the love! Join the Make It Better Craftalong for Sandy Relief.
Donate $10 via Text Message to the American Red Cross. Text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief. As in the case with other donations via mobile, the donation will show up on your wireless bill, or be deducted from your balance if you have a prepaid phone. You need to be 18 or older, or have parental permission, to donate this way. (If you change your mind, text the word STOP to 90999.) See more options online on the American Red Cross Website.
If you’re going to be holiday shopping anyway, buy products that a portion of those proceeds go to supporting those affected. eBay has a great program going on that you can find out more about HERE.
Eat a cupcake and support those in need. On Monday, November 12, Sprinkles is donating 100% of the proceeds from their Red Cross Red Velvet cupcakes to the American Red Cross to benefit Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Find out more on the Sprinkles Facebook Page.
Pets are often forgotten about in a disaster. Visit the Humane Society of the United States website to donate and for more information.
Save the Children is providing basic necessities for young children, such as nutritious food items, baby blankets, clothing and hygiene supplies. See their website for ways you can help.
Helping out those in need is awesome!!
My heart continues to go out to all of those affected!!
